Beyond Capture Studios
Vancouver's largest motion capture studio, situated in the heart of the city's historic Gastown, they're quickly becoming one of the go-to studios for the film, game and entertainment projects in the area.
The Founder of the studio (at the time, Mimic Performance Capture) came to me with a need for a new name and logo to help set them apart and really capture who they are and who they strive to be as a company.
Process
By engaging in a series of discovery sessions together, we examined what they did, why they did it and how they wanted to be viewed by the industry and their potential clientele.
Through the sessions we developed their company ethos and identified exactly what they felt gave them purpose and drove them to succeed within in their industry.
From there, we looked at more than a dozen potential names, from which we explored three in detail and developed potential visual directions.
Beyond the Impossible
One of the defining elements of the team is how they are able to do what no other studio is able to offer. They consistently go beyond what is expected, what other studios may deem impossible. In an email from the client, he wrote: "…we go beyond, we do the impossible."

The Website
In 2021 we launched an updated lockup using ABC Dinamo's Prophet typeface, whose angles perfectly compliment the dimension of the icon, while allowing the team to use it online without customization.
The Logo
The result was something iconic, thematic and of personal value to the client. We were able to use the letters B and C to create a shape directly inspired by the reference image, but uniquely their own.
Being based in Vancouver often brings to mind the scenic skyline beneath the mountains, life beside the ocean, and a clear, blue sky.
Using these references we went with a predominantly green shape with deep blue shadows—making it feel incredibly vibrant and even a little surreal.
